Here you are, right at the beginning of your work with Agillic! Thanks to this omnichannel marketing platform, you can create personalised communications engineered to truly connect with your recipients.
To give you a helping hand, we've laid out what your first steps might be. As email is our most popular medium, this guide takes you through setting up an email campaign and how to track its success. It's time to get started!
In this article, you will find information about your first steps to do with the following topics:
First Steps
Picking your audience
Let's begin by defining an audience and therefore specifying who your campaign will be sent to. In Agillic, we use Target Groups to control who receives a given email.
In the screenshot below, we've entered the Data module and selected Target Groups in the left sidebar. As an example, we've had a look at purchase data. From this data, we can create a Target Group to filter out recipients who have made a purchase within the past seven days. This way, we can send an email to nudge people who might be more receptive to making a purchase as they haven't made one recently.
In general, the complexity and width of your Target Group is only limited by the data available in your Agillic instance.

In the Data module, you can see a preview of up to 100 matching recipients in the Recipients window.
Creating your content
Now that you've defined an audience, the next step is to create some exciting content. You do this by going into the Channels module, select Email, and then Create Email at the bottom of the sidebar.
During the onboarding process, we recommend that you schedule a meeting with a Template Developer. The template defines the overall visual identity of outbound communication, as well as available options in the email editor. Once the template is finished and made available on your instance, simply select it and design away! Hover your mouse over existing blocks to remove or add additional blocks.
Let's imagine that we're launching a new line of luxury chocolate and want to notify our customers. In the example below, we've created an email with mostly static content, meaning that it's the same for all recipients. However, we've decided to add a personal touch by including a dynamic 'FIRSTNAME' field. If data exists for the recipient for the data field 'FIRSTNAME', it will be automatically inserted into the email when it's sent out.
But, that's just scratching the surface of what you can do! Read more about utilising data in communication.

Creating your campaign
Now that we've defined an audience and created some content, it's time to put the pieces together. In Agillic, outbound communication is controlled by configuring a Flow. A Flow configuration contains the answers to questions such as when the communication should be sent out and how it should be sent.
A Flow consists of Steps. Different Steps can be types of communication, such as email or SMS, or could be Steps controlling the path through the Flow.
To experiment with a Flow, go into the Flows module and select the Create icon in the top left corner. Then, select New Flow. If you want to use the Target Group we previously created, 'purchase_within_7days', click the root Flow step, and select the Target Group from the drop-down menu.
To connect the email we just configured, simply add an Email Step from the Step Toolbar and select the email we just created from the drop-down menu.
You can alter the settings of each Flow using the Flow Settings which appear on the right side of the screen. For example, it's from within the Flow Settings that you can set which Target Group you would like to go through your Flow. Select the Target Group from the drop-down menu and then click OK.
It's important to note that you need to publish your campaign to the Production environment before executing your campaign to live recipients. You can read more about publishing as well as how to do it here.

Reviewing your campaign
You have successfully launched your first campaign! It's time to evaluate the performance.
The Start Page enables you to get a quick overview of recent activity. Widgets provide information on the number of emails sent, emails opened, new recipients gained, and much more.
For example, to keep track of our luxury chocolate campaign, we might look at the Flows Overview widget to see how many recipients received the email.

If you want to deep dive into an individual campaign, you can head to the Reports module to create a custom-made report. This way, you can retrieve information such as how many of the emails hard or soft bounced, if any recipients unsubscribed after your email, and how many clicks there were through the email.
