Subject line testing means you can test out different subject lines with portions of your Target Group. Then, based on opens or clicks, Agillic automatically sends the winning subject line to the rest of your Target Group.
Setting up a subject line test takes place both in the email containing the subject line variations and in the Flow logic.
How to Enable a Subject Line Test in the Channels Module
- Log in to Staging.
- Open the Channels module and then select 'Email'.
- Find the email you'd like to test with and select it.
- Click on the background of the email and the 'Properties' panel will appear to the right.
- Check the 'Subject Line Test' checkbox.
- Fill in your subject line variations in the 'Enter A variation' and the 'Enter B variations' fields. You can click the '+' icon beneath the variations if you want to do more than two variations.
- Save the email.

How to Enable a Subject Line Test in the Flows Module
- Open the Flows module.
- Create a new Flow or navigate to an existing one. Make sure that the Flow has an email Step and that it's the first Step in the Flow.
- Click on the email Step and select your email in the 'Email Template' drop-down.
- Click 'OK'.
- Click the 'Save' icon in the top toolbar.
- Select the 'Settings' panel for your email Step.
- Check the 'Subject Line Test' checkbox.
- Fill in what percentage of the recipients in your Target Group should be included in the Subject Line Test. Don't fill 100% in this field as this would mean 50% of your recipients would receive variation 1 and the other 50% would receive variation 2, meaning there would be no recipients left to send the best performing subject line to.
- Fill in how long your Subject Line Test should run for. You can choose based on either hours or days.
- Choose what criteria should be used for the winning subject line. This could be the highest open rate, highest click rate, or a combination of both.
- Click 'OK'.
- Click the 'Save' icon in the top toolbar.
Your Flow is now ready to run your Subject Line Test.
A winning subject line variation will be found automatically based on your chosen settings. Once a winner has been found, the remaining recipients in your Target Group will receive the winning subject line variation.
Once you've sent out an email with a subject line test, you can see the winning subject line by creating a report.
