Segmenting content is an essential strategy to ensure that the right content reaches the right audience. This guide explains how to define which content blocks are sent to specific target groups, enhancing the personalisation of your communication.
Content Blocks
Not all content blocks are created equal. You can personalise your communication by adding Target Groups to content blocks or by creating a more complex rule set for a group of content blocks, known as Variant Groups.
Target Groups
To add a target group to a block, focus on the block bar and locate the target group selector in the right sidebar. Select the target group you want to display the block to.
Note that recipients who are not part of the selected target group will not see this block, so ensure that the blocks above and below are cohesive.
Variant Groups
A Variant Group acts as a container for a group of blocks with Target Groups. Unlike regular blocks with target groups, a recipient can only be eligible for one block within a Variant Group, even if they belong to multiple target groups.
The recipient will see the first block they qualify for, evaluated in a top-down manner, making the order of blocks significant within a Variant Group.
Note that if a recipient doesn't fit into any of the target groups, the Variant Group is not present in their communication.
It is possible to designate one of the blocks within a Variant Group as the default block. Setting a block as the default provides a way to display fallback content in case some recipients don't fit into any of the target groups within the Variant Group.
